DescriptionThis Month's Guest StorytellersAbout Our HostHow 'Simply Said' Works

Some things you see coming. Some things you absolutely don’t.

This month’s Simply Said explores “Foretold“… stories about predictions, promises, prophecies, warnings, premonitions, family sayings, fortune cookies, weather forecasts, doctor’s visits, tarot cards, “I told you so’s,” and those moments when everyone knew what was going to happen… except you.

OCTOBER GUEST STORYTELLER

JOYCE CID
Joyce dedicated 17 years of her life working at the County Hospital in Martinez. An experienced cosmetologist, she also shared her skills as an instructor at Paris Beauty School. Life took an unexpected turn when, at the age of 32, Joyce was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a progressive eye disease that would eventually lead to blindness.

As a single mother with a son in eighth grade, Joyce faced a daunting question: How would she support herself and her child? Determined to find a path forward, she decided to pursue something she could do with her hands. Joyce applied for a scholarship at Berkeley Beauty School and earned certification as a massage therapist—a profession she’s practiced from her home for an incredible 35 years.

Today, Joyce continues to shine as a beacon of hope. She has found new friendships and purpose at the Lions Center for the Visually Impaired, where she actively helps others as a proud Lion. Her story is one of resilience, reinvention, and spiritual growth—a reminder that even in life’s darkest moments, light can be found within.
