ONE NIGHT ONLY AT THE LARK DRIVE-IN! DON’T MISS!

Official Website: www.manhattanshort.com

Film lovers around the world will unite between September 24 to October 31 to view and vote on the nine finalists’ films in the 23rd Annual MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival. MANHATTAN SHORT is the only event of its kind. The Final Nine screen simultaneously across the world during a one-month period, with the Best Film and Best Actor awards determined by ballots cast by the audiences in each participating venue.

This year’s Final Nine selections use drama, comedy and animation to address an astonishing number of themes, ranging from identity to parenthood to the seemingly universal frustration caused by the Department of Motor Vehicles no matter the country. The directorial voices are both male and female from countries large and small, often inspired by personal and sometimes harrowing, experience. This year’s Final Nine screening also is a rare instance when gripping dramas from Iran, Israel, and the State of Palestine are featured in the same program.

YOU BE THE JUDGE!
The judges of the Finalists’ Films are you!
Upon entry at all participating venues, festival attendees are handed a Voting Card and an Official Program, and asked to vote for the ONE Film and Actor they feel should win. Votes are tallied by each host venue then emailed to our NYC headquarters.

Winner will be announced at ManhattanShort.com on Sunday November 1 at 10am EST.

On entry to each venue, you will be handed a ballot card that allows you to VOTE for the BEST SHORT FILM and ACTOR at the conclusion of the program. Votes will be sent to MANHATTAN SHORT’s headquarters and the winner will be announced at ManhattanShort.com on Sunday November 1 at 10am EST. The directors and actors anxiously await your decision.

*** DOUBLE-FEATURE BAY AREA PREMIERE! ***
Teton Gravity Research presents MAKE BELIEVE and ACCOMPLICE

Join us for a night of social stoke at the Bay Area premiere of TGR’s two brand new thrilling adventure films at the Lark Drive-In.  This special event will open with the eagerly awaited ski and snowboard film MAKE BELIEVE, followed by the Marin County premiere of Jeremy Grant’s spectacular mountain bike film ACCOMPLICE.

There will be prize giveaways from our partners at Sierra Nevada, The North Face, Atomic, Volkl, Yeti and more. Plus, everyone will have a shot at our tour grand prizes, including a trip to Jackson Hole, a trip to Whistler with Tourism Whistler, the ultimate tailgate experience from Sierra Nevada, and gear packs from The North Face, Yeti and Atomic.

ABOUT MAKE BELIEVE: Inspiration is evoked spontaneously and without intention…Sometimes it comes in the form of a photograph, a chance encounter on a chairlift, or a glimpse at a mountain never seen before. When combined with motivation, the spark of inspiration becomes a dream, and when pursued gives our lives a new purpose. For 25 years TGR has focused on turning Make Believe into reality, from exploring powder stashes in our backyard playground to first descents on unnamed peaks, the ethos of “live the dream” has defined our adventures.

Note: There will be a 15 minute intermission after ‘Make Believe’.

*** DOUBLE-FEATURE BAY AREA PREMIERE! ***
Teton Gravity Research presents ACCOMPLICE and MAKE BELIEVE

Join us for a night of social stoke at the Bay Area premiere of TGR’s two brand new thrilling adventure films at the Lark Drive-In.  This special event will open with the eagerly awaited ski and snowboard film MAKE BELIEVE, followed by the Marin County premiere of Jeremy Grant’s spectacular mountain bike film ACCOMPLICE.

ABOUT ACCOMPLICE: It’s a moment time-stamped in our brains. Maybe it was a birthday gift. Or perhaps you saved paycheck after paycheck to finally purchase one. However you met your first bicycle, it was the pedal strokes that came afterward that hooked you onto something intangible. Adventure. Connection. Freedom.

From the producers of UnReal and the director of Where The Trail Ends comes Accomplice, an homage to all the crazy adventures and crazier comrades that result from our finest sidekick. On the surface, Accomplice takes you to mind blowing locations across the globe with the world’s top riders. But beyond that, Teton Gravity Research’s latest film celebrates how the bicycle is more than just a mode of transportation – it’s a vehicle for the human spirit.

Note: There will be a 15 minute intermission after ‘Make Believe’.

Jonathan Demme captured lightning in a bottle with this ecstatic record of a 1983 Talking Heads concert, which features the band delivering euphoric performances of hits like “Psycho Killer,” “Burning Down the House,” and “This Must Be the Place.” With his superbly judged, unobtrusive style, Demme lets the alien-like charisma of front man David Byrne-never more kookily compelling than when he struts out in the iconic big suit for a rendition of “Girlfriend Is Better”-take center stage to create what may just be the most joyous concert documentary ever made.  – Criterion

“Talking Heads made for great material, with its revolutionary mash-up of punk, funk, art, avant-garde and other sounds. But what sets “Stop” apart is the intimate look at that brilliant talking head, lead singer David Byrne.”
– L.A. Times

” The overwhelming impression throughout Stop Making Sense is of enormous energy, of life being lived at a joyous high.”
– Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

“Mr. Demme has captured both the look and the spirit of this live performance with a daring and precision that match the group’s own.”
– N.Y. Times

” Truly captivating entertainment.”
– Empire Magazine

Recorded LIVE over the span of two nights at Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee.

Neil Young : Heart of Gold is filmmaker Jonathan Demme’s intimate musical portrait of legendary singer/songwriter Neil Young, filmed on the occasion of the world premiere of Young’s ‘Prairie Wind’ concert at Nashville’s hallowed Ryman auditorium last summer. Young’s music provides an emotionally rich view into this unique artist’s relationship to family, friends, mortality and the passage of time. Young is accompanied on stage by many long time musical companions, including country star Emmylou Harris, Neil’s wife Pegi Young, and band leader/ steel guitarist Ben Keith.

“Even those who haven’t followed Young’s every recent move could well find his performance here surprisingly captivating.”
– Time Out Magazine

“The result is simply spellbinding.”
– Daily Mirror, UK

“This is by far the most accessible cinematic treatment of [Neil Young’s] music; a troubadour at the top of his game.”
– bbc.com

“When it comes to pop-music icons, Neil Young is the full package.”
– Arizona Republic

“Neil Young: Heart of Gold is one of the best live concert films ever made.”
– Detroit News
